Averett House

The University Record of August, 1874, says Bishop Green has erected a handsome cottage near his house.  This was originally in the same yard as Kendal and was used for years as part of Miss Lily Green's boarding house.  In 1937 Bishop William Mercer Green, Bishop Green's grandson, bought it and made many improvements.  He used it as a summer home until his death in 1943 and left it to his wife.  She sold it in 1951 to Mrs. Averett who also made many changes in it and now very little of its original cottage remains.  Miss Helen Averett sold it in 1967 to William Doswell.  It is now owned by Reverend and Mrs. John Paul Carter.
