George Fairbanks

The name of George Rainsford Fairbanks' first Sewanee home on the bluff west of Green's View.  After its destruction in 1863, Fairbanks abandoned this site and rebuilt his home in 1866 at Rebel's Rest in the center of campus.  Probably near 35/12/59N/ /85/55/17W.

The elevation of this house is all we have as a photograph.  Major Fairbanks built it on the edge of the Mountain to the left of Greeen's View, approximately between the site of Clara's house which is now owned by the Helvenstons, and Henry Kirby-Smith. There used to be a stone marker on the site of this house.
