This house was built by Mr. Stanley Bell of Nashville for his sister, Mrs. Herndon, whose husband had been killed in the War and whose three sons, Tom, Ned and Stanley were to be educated at Sewanee.
Miss Queenie Washington used to stay here as a small girl as Mr. Bell was her sister's husband.
This house stood next to Mrs. Rowland's (later Mrs. Barnwell's) on the west side of Alabama Avenue.
There seems to be no record of when it vanished, but Mrs. Herndon was living on University Avenue in 1886 where William Hamilton now lives.
