Blue Chair

The BLUE CHAIR is both a restaurant/bakery and bar serving comfort food, house-made pastries and craft beers.

The CAFE (35 University Ave.) serves breakfast sandwiches, pastries, and Mike’s Grill and Meat and Three on weekdays, with a full breakfast on weekends.

The VILLAGE TAVERN (41 University Ave.) is known for its award winning burgers (Garden and Gun Magazine), chicken strips, wings, fish and chips and its exclusive Jackalope craft beers. Popular ongoing events that bring diverse patrons in weekly include trivia, community poetry readings, Sewanee Business Alliance weekly meetings, student organization gatherings, and Coffee with the Coach where community members can show up for free coffee and conversation with one of the University’s coaches. The outdoor seating area is a nice spot to kick back and listen to bands performing across the street in ANGEL PARK.

The TAVERN side was built circa 1908, and housed the Express office for the railroad.  In more recent decades it was an electric shop, private office space, laundrymat, the Sewanee Mountain Messenger's first office, the Blue Chair's first location, and finally Sweet Cee Cee’s. In 2012, the Wilsons purchased the building and created the Tavern with its connecting staircase to the Blue Chair's Cafe.
